Stephan Roussan, ICVM Group’s Founder and President, presented the first annual ICVM Group Women in Technology Scholarship Award to two graduating seniors from Mattituck High School: Rebecca Hammerle and Alexandra Talbot.

Alexandra Talbot will be attending Tufts University School of Engineering this Fall, and has a strong interest in aerospace engineering. She was the valedictorian of the 2018 graduating class, a member of the girls’ state championship varsity lacrosse and varsity tennis teams, and the principal trumpet player in the jazz band. Ms. Talbot is a member of the National Honor Society, and earned the Girls Scout Silver Award.

Rebecca Hammerle will be attending Georgia Institute of Technology this Fall, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. She is a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society and the National Honor Society.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that only 20% of engineering students are women; only 11% of practicing engineers are women; and across all technology jobs, only 17% are held by women.

“The implications of this disparity are far-reaching,” Roussan said. “Our modern world revolves around the development and use of technology. When men dominate technology, they dictate which problems and priorities in our society are addressed through technology and which are not -- always doing so from a uniquely male perspective.”

ICVM Group asked the Mattituck High School faculty to recommend two students who have shown special aptitude and achievement in STEM, and who intend to pursue college studies in technology-oriented disciplines.

“We believe that having more women in technology is absolutely essential to a better society,” said Roussan. “We congratulate Ms. Talbot and Ms. Hammerle for their achievements and hope that recognizing their chosen paths in this fashion will inspire many more young women to follow in their footsteps.”

50% of ICVM Group’s management team is comprised of women, including roles throughout the company that include strategy, project management, design, development and marketing.
